ACEH | FN – Jumat (28/12). Of the Head of the Aceh Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA), Sapto Aji Prabowo reported a Sumatran elephant, male found dead on the banks of the Peusangan river in the Pantanlah Village, Pintu Rime Gayo District, Bener Meriah Regency, Sumatra Province, Indonesia.
Sapto said, the Sumatran elephant found dead, had been treated by the Aceh BKSDA Team four months ago. Not yet known what causes the death of the Sumatran elephant. But from a police investigation, the elephant’s ivory was gone.
The Bener Meriah Police Department estimates that the elephant has died since 15 days ago, because the elephant carcass has caused a foul odor. Tomorrow is planned by the BKSDA Team and a team of veterinarians will identify the location of the Sumatran elephant carcass.
Chronologically, the dead Sumatran elephant was discovered by the community in rotten conditions on Thursday (27/12) at around 7:00 a.m. Conservation Response Unit (CRU) the Pintu Rime Gayo, a sumatran elephant, is still alive called Bungkuk, because of the hunchback of the Sumatran elephant posture. They said the Sumatran elephant four months ago had a long wound at the base of the upper neck. the elephant was treated by an animal medical team from BKSDA Aceh, then released again after recovering.
